Grapevine September 25 2005 Market

--What's at the Market this week?
--Chipotle Pesto Roast Chicken

It looks like we're in for another sunny weekend, so come on down to the market. Besides all the great produce, Adrienne Davis and Lisa Marsicek are playing this weekend and we've a new food vendor, Mario's Moldovan Ravioli. You may have seen Mario at Interstate Farmers Market, or Portland Farmers Market on Thursday or Saturday. If you've never had Moldovan Ravioli, you're in for a real treat.

Picklopolis is at the market this weekend. Garden Color and Sundance Lavender are off this week but will be back next week. Freddy Guy Filberts will miss the next two markets but will be back October 9. See you at the market!

What's at the Market this week?

The late summer fruit (watermelons, cantaloupes, blackberries and blueberries) are still plentiful. There should still be some raspberries available too. Selva Strawberries are in good supply too. Grapes (red flame) will be available for the next two weeks, so get them while you can. As for tree fruit, peaches, pluots and nectarines are still going strong. Pears and apples are really coming into season now.

As for vegetables, you'll have a lot to choose from. There are still a wide variety of tomatoes to choose from. Greens including lettuces, chards, kale and collards are plentiful. Corn, peppers and eggplants are in good supply too. Acorn squash showed up at the market last week. The other winter squashes should be coming in soon.

Chipotle Pesto Roast Chicken

David Hickenbottom at Copper Crown Fine Foods has created a wide variety of pestos and dressings. David has shown that there's more to pesto than basil.

In this recipe, David uses his chipotle pesto to season a roast chicken. It's a fairly simple recipe which produces a tasty dinner.
